Sometimes people I knew die, and I realize there aren’t any photos of us. I’m glad there were photos of me and Anne McCaffrey.
She was funny, down-to-earth, and one of the nicest authors I knew. She was really nice to me when I was a baby author, and you never forget these things.

This makes me really sad.  Anne McCaffrey was one of the first authors I fell genuinely in love with.  I remember she was grouped with Mercedes Lackey, Tanith Lee, Robin McKinley, Patricia McKillip, and Andre Norton.  I can actually see the library shelves, and where they all were in relation to each other.  I devoured the Pern books when I was in 6th and 7th grade.  I think it was the first time I was actually aware of world building as a concept.  And her Rowan/To Ride Pegasus books were the first science fiction I ever read.
